Housing starts for April 2025

Canada's housing starts increased 2.4% in April to 240,905 units, with a 30% monthly rise to 278,606 units. Actual starts in population centers over 10,000 grew 17% year-over-year, reaching a record high for April. Growth was driven by Québec and Prairie provinces, while Ontario and British Columbia saw declines. Montreal and Vancouver saw increases, but Toronto experienced a 25% decrease in starts. Economic uncertainty may impact future supply and demand.
